Alchemised doesn’t simply invite you into its world, it lures you in. Albeit softly at first, then with a grip that tightens like a spell gone slightly wrong. This is a story steeped in shadows, where every choice feels like it’s paid for in blood, memory or something far more precious.

🌍 World Building

The story takes a good while to get going. It’s riddled with complex alchemical terminology, politics, magical systems and trauma. Sitting at around 1,000 pages, SenLinYu spares absolutely no detail when it comes to world-building.

🌑 Atmosphere

The world hums with a quiet and unsettling magic. Nothing is bright here in a world that feels seeped in eternal gloom; everything glows instead. The alchemy system feels ancient and like the kind of power that watches you back. It’s intoxicating, but can be confusing at times.

🥀 Characters

The cast is beautifully flawed, but Kaine Ferron is the one who haunts the pages. He carries his power like a curse and a crown all at once, a man stitched together from secrets and sharp edges. There’s a tragic elegance to him, like someone who has already lost too much but keeps walking deeper into the dark anyway.

Helena is a strange combination of scruffy and broken, yet composed, intelligent and deliberate. She carries the weight of trauma with elegance and resilience whilst remaining truly loyal to Luc, even when he grows distant and seems to betray and abandon her.

Everyone in this book feels a little broken, a little dangerous and entirely compelling.

Honestly I think I would have awarded this 5* if it didn’t leave me feeling a little dim in places 😂
